RECALL: BlackBerry-Branded Batteries Recalled by Consumer Product Safety Commission

Asurion Corp., the world's largest supplier of mobile phones and wireless roadside assistance insurance programs, has renovated its center in Smyrna, Tennessee with regard to some 470,000 counterfeit batteries for PDAs, Blackberry, because it burns and overheating, posing fire

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell, or try one recalls sell consumer goods.

Product name: Fake branded refurbished BlackBerry ® phone batteries in devices

Units: 470,000

Distributor: Asurion, of Smyrna, Tennessee

Hazard: The counterfeit batteries can overheat and burn and fire hazards.

Incidents / Injuries: Asurion has received two reports of counterfeit BlackBerry ®-branded batteries to overheat, making minor burns to a consumer in the finger and minor damage to a sofa and car seat.

Description: This recall only applies to BlackBerry ®-branded batteries made with refurbished BlackBerry ®-branded devices. The units were refurbished, sent to consumers by Asurion by a program to protect handset. The batteries have been renovated for use in virtually all models of BlackBerry devices sold by Asurion before 1 November 2009. Blackberry-branded batteries are not affected in this recall. No other Asurion or BlackBerry products are involved in this recall.

Distributed by: Asurion as part of their listeners claim protection program nationwide from March 2004 to October 2009.

Remedy: Consumers, the BlackBerry device was renovated by Asurion before 1 November 2009 should immediately stop using the product and contact Asurion for a replacement. Asurion directly inform consumers of known contact with the affected batteries to them by this recall.
